Conestee Dog Park's two off-leash runs, leashed walks on the Swamp Rabbit Trail and Paris Mountain, dog-friendly patios and the city's leash ordinance.

Last checked Oct. 16, 2026. Rules come from the City of Greenville’s Code of Ordinances, Chapter 4 and its park pages; patios from each business’s own website. Animal and nuisance complaints: Greenville police non-emergency, 864-271-5333.

Greenville has one large off-leash dog park, a 28-mile greenway where leashed dogs are welcome, a state park on the edge of town and patios that say dogs are welcome. The city’s rules: leash off your own property, pick up after your dog and leave it at home for permitted events.

The short version

  • Off-leash: Conestee Dog Park, 840 Mauldin Road
  • Leashed walks: Swamp Rabbit Trail, city parks, Conestee Nature Preserve, Paris Mountain
  • No dogs: permitted special events (unless allowed) and city cemeteries
  • Always: pick up after your dog on any public property

Conestee Dog Park

The city’s off-leash park is at 840 Mauldin Road, part of the Conestee Park recreation complex with five baseball fields, playgrounds and plenty of parking. It has two runs: a small dog run of 14,000 square feet and a large dog run of more than 30,000 square feet. Each has a double-gated entry, rounded fence corners to cut down on scuffles, benches, shade shelters, running water and pet waste stations, according to the city’s dog park page. The city and Greenville County built it together; it opened Oct. 4, 2014, and the county runs and maintains it.

Leashed walks and trails

Conestee Nature Preserve, next to the dog park, has miles of trails and boardwalks for on-leash dog walks, the city says.

Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail. The 28-mile greenway between Greenville and Travelers Rest allows dogs. The city’s trail rules ask you to keep pets on short leashes, carry out waste, keep right and yield to people on foot. See our walking and biking trails guide.

Paris Mountain State Park, 2401 State Park Road. Pets are allowed in most outdoor areas on a leash no longer than 6 feet, but not in or around cabins and other lodging, according to South Carolina State Parks. Admission is $6 for adults.

City parks. Keep your dog leashed and clean up after it in any park, playground or plaza, as the city code requires.

Dog-friendly patios

  • Tupelo Honey, 1 N. Main St., Suite T: patio seating, which the restaurant lists as pet-friendly, open from 8 a.m. daily, its Greenville page says. Phone: 864-451-6200.
  • Yee-Haw Brewing, 307 E. McBee Ave., Suite C: “dog friendly on our patios and beer gardens,” the brewery’s FAQ says. Open 11 a.m. daily, until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 p.m. other nights, according to its Greenville page. Phone: 864-605-7770.

Indoor dining rooms are another matter: ask before you bring a dog inside. Businesses can tell us if their patio welcomes dogs.

Dog events

  • Paws on the Pad: the Unity Park splash pad opens to dogs for a day each fall. The second Paws on the Pad, presented by Dog Culture, was Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, with sessions through the day; dogs had to be registered and show their vaccinations, the city said.
  • Waggin’ at the Waterpark: Greenville County’s waterparks hold a dog swim; the 2026 session was Sept. 19 at Otter Creek, 101 W. Darby Road, according to Greenville County Rec.
  • Tails and Trails 5K: a pet-friendly walk and run at Conestee Park that raises money for Greenville County Animal Care; the 2026 race was May 9, the city’s event calendar showed.

The leash rules

From the city’s animals ordinance:

  • No running at large (Sec. 4-14). A dog may not run beyond its owner’s land. “Running at large” means being off the owner’s premises and not under physical control by a leash or similar restraint (Sec. 4-1).
  • Pick up after your dog (Sec. 4-9). Owners must promptly remove feces from any street, sidewalk, plaza, park, playground or other public property.
  • No dogs at permitted events (Sec. 4-9). Animals, leashed or not, may not be in the area of an event held under a city special event permit unless the permit allows them. Ask the organizer before bringing a dog to a festival.
  • No dogs in cemeteries (Sec. 4-9). Animals may not walk, run or stand on cemetery grounds.
  • Exemptions. Service dogs with their handlers, police dogs on duty and animals that stay inside a vehicle.

Outside city limits, Greenville County’s rules apply.

What this means for you
