In the city now
Augusta Street underground utilities, Phase 1. Starting Monday, Oct. 12, the city has nightly closures with detours on Augusta Street from Lupo Street to Melville Avenue while crews bury overhead power, communication and traffic-signal lines and remove the poles, the city said. The work is done overnight because about 20,000 cars use the street each day. Businesses stay open and reachable. After the lines are buried, the street will get new lighting and be resurfaced and restriped. Completion is expected in fall 2027.
Temple Street repaving. Temple Street has lane closures from Wednesday, Nov. 4, until Friday, Nov. 6 while crews repave it, the city said Nov. 3. Flaggers direct lane shifts, with short, intermittent full closures. Homes and businesses stay reachable. The city asked drivers to expect delays and use another route when they can. The notice does not say which section of the street is affected.
Trails End repaving. Trails End, between Wilderness Lane and Fernwood Lane, has lane closures until Thursday, Nov. 5 for repaving, with flaggers and short full closures, the city said Nov. 3.
McPherson Park lower parking lot. The city said Oct. 20 that the lower lot would be closed for about a week while crews removed a tree stump left by Hurricane Helene and shored up the creek bank. The city has not announced that the lot has reopened, so we could not confirm it as of Nov. 5.
More streets on the paving list. The city’s resurfacing page lists Winn Street, Windsor Drive, Cotton Street, North and South Irvine streets, Foster Street, Balsam Drive, Fludd Street, Craigwood Court, Palm Street, Forest View Drive, Victory Avenue, Sumlar Drive, Temple Street, Anchorage Drive and others as scheduled, paid for with the state legislative delegation’s matching program and the city’s Neighborhood Infrastructure Bond.
Mayberry Street near Unity Park. Sidewalk repairs, a concrete median, a crosswalk and parking-area work started in September and are expected to be finished in early November, the city said. The city has not announced that the work is finished. Crews work under lane closures and around school arrival and dismissal times.
Verdae Boulevard trail bridge. A pedestrian bridge carrying the Swamp Rabbit Trail’s Green Line over Verdae Boulevard has been under construction since August 2025. The city’s project page still lists it as underway; we could not confirm a finish date as of Nov. 5.
