Ceremonies

Greenville County Memorial Day Observance. The county’s Memorial Day ceremony is at the Veterans’ Memorial outside the county administrative complex at Greenville County Square on University Ridge. The 2026 observance ran from 10 a.m. to noon on Memorial Day and unveiled the names of 170 Revolutionary War veterans who settled in Greenville County, now inscribed on the memorial, according to the South Carolina Society, Sons of the American Revolution, which took part. Watch for the 2027 program in May.

Honor Tower Mile

The Honor Tower Mile, formerly the Memorial Day Mile, is a one-mile race at Unity Park on Memorial Day morning. In 2026 it started at 7 a.m. The new name highlights the Wong Honor Tower at Unity Park, which honors public servants, “including our fallen service members on Memorial Day,” the organizers said in the city’s event calendar listing. Mayberry Street closed from Willard Street to South Hudson Street from 6:45 to 8 a.m. The tower opened on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2025.

Palmetto Heroes Hike

On the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend in 2026, May 23, hikers chose a 6-mile or 12-mile loop on the Swamp Rabbit Trail, stopping together at memorial checkpoints that each honor a fallen South Carolina service member or first responder. The fourth annual hike raised money for The Wounded and Recovering Fund, the South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association and Upstate Warrior Solution, the city’s calendar listing said. The 2027 date is not out yet.
