How to report a Duke Energy outage
Duke does not always know your power is out, its outage page says, so report it yourself:
- Text OUT to 57801 from the phone number on your account.
- Call 800-769-3766.
- Report online at duke-energy.com/outages, or in the Duke Energy app.
Speaking to a customer service representative will not speed up your restoration, Duke says. Check the Duke Energy outage map for outages near you.
Why a neighbor may have power when you do not
Duke gives several reasons on its outage page. Crews often survey storm damage before repairs, which it says speeds restoration and lets them deal with hazards first. They may need to fix a problem elsewhere before yours, or one that restores more customers at once. Your home may be on a different line or circuit from your neighbor’s, and in some cases a home needs electrical repairs of its own before it can be reconnected.
Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative
Blue Ridge, based in Pickens, serves more than 73,000 customers in five counties, and its board includes a Greenville/Spartanburg seat, according to the cooperative. Members report outages at 1-888-BLUERIDGE and can check the Blue Ridge outage map.
Safety during an outage
From Duke Energy:
- Assume every downed line is energized and report it immediately.
- Stay away from floodwater and debris; they can hide downed lines.
- Run a generator outside and plug appliances directly into it. Never wire a generator into your breaker box: it can send power back onto the lines and hurt line workers.
- If you leave home, turn off appliances that were on, or the main breaker.
- If you have any doubt about your home’s wiring, call a licensed electrician.
Water and other utilities
