Where it is
The boundary here is the city’s Central Business District layer on its GIS hub. It takes in Main Street and the blocks on either side, from the Bon Secours Wellness Arena area on North Academy Street down through Falls Park to the edge of the West End. Every residential address inside it is in ZIP code 29601 and inside city limits, so the city provides police, fire and trash service.
Much of downtown is history on paper as well as on the street. The city’s National Register layer maps more than 20 listed sites inside the district, among them the Poinsett Hotel, the former Greenville County Courthouse, the Reedy River Industrial District (listed Feb. 14, 1979) and the Reedy River Falls Historic Park and Greenway (listed Nov. 17, 1978).
