Where it is

The city does not draw a boundary for North Main, so this guide uses the North Main place point in OpenStreetMap, at North Main Street north of Stone Avenue, and the area within about 0.6 miles of it inside city limits, leaving out downtown and East Park, which have their own pages. That is about 0.9 square miles with roughly 2,200 residential addresses in the city’s address file. About 59% are in ZIP code 29609 and 41% in 29601. Two city layers fall inside it:

  • Colonel Elias Earle Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 1, 1982, and mapped by the city as a preservation overlay, so exterior changes go to the city’s Design Review Board.
  • Whitehall, a house on the National Register since Aug. 5, 1969, according to the city’s National Register layer.
