Where it is

This guide uses the city’s East Park preservation overlay together with the East Park Historic District, listed on the National Register on Oct. 4, 2005, as both appear in the city’s GIS layers. That is a compact area of under a tenth of a square mile with roughly 185 residential addresses, about half single-family houses and half apartment or condo units, all in ZIP code 29601 and all inside city limits. The city provides police, fire and trash service; Fire Station 4, the Stone Avenue Station, is at 423 E. Park Ave.

Because East Park is a preservation overlay district, exterior changes to buildings go through the city’s design review. The Design Review Board page explains the process. The Beattie House, listed on the National Register on Oct. 9, 1974, is also inside the area, according to the city’s National Register layer.

North Main, which wraps around East Park to the north and west, has its own page.
